We drove into town from Ann Arbor after a night of
camping. Lucky for us, we read the part
in our baseball road trip book that said parking around the stadium was $25! Lots
near the stadium went for as little as $10 and we jumped on the first one we
saw right off the highway. We didn't even realize it was the parking structure for the Detroit Lion’s Ford Field; we
even got to walk through the domed football stadium on our way to Comerica
Park, which was just on the other side of Ford Field. It was 80 degrees at Comerica, another
gorgeous day that couldn't even be dampened by the rain clouds that sprinkled
through the final innings of the game.
Ford Field! How cool we got to walk through. |

We proceeded to Will Call where Ryan’s boss in Oakland,
Heather, contacted her counterpart in Detroit, Eli, to hook us up with comp
tickets for the game. Thank you so much,
Heather and Eli!! Before heading to our
seats, though, we (again) followed the advice of our baseball road trip book
and found the Chicago Style Hot Dogs (after 1.5 laps around the stadium – turns
out they were in a food court) which were worth the extra dollars. Ryan and Brad opted for the Chicago Style Dog
while I tried the Coney Dog. We were all
thoroughly satisfied. To be fair, it was
the first thing we had eaten that day.

Our view from the seats. Thanks again to both Heather and Eli!!! |
With dogs in hands we headed up to our seats in the second
deck on the third base infield line. The
seats were really great – we sat next to two men who had 4 season tickets. They told us they bought two seats in one row
and two seats in the row directly in front of them for when their wives wanted
to go (on this day, they gave their tickets extra tickets away to two guys
about our age). It was another case of
nice and genuine fans who were interested about our baseball journey and
chatted through the game.
The game started with Detroit taking a quick 4-0 lead on the
Cleveland Indians in the first inning.
Though the Indians made a run at the Tigers, they were able to hold them
off and secure the victory. It was nice
to see the home team win again.
