After our day adventures, we hop on the subway to see the
White Sox at Cellular Field on the South Side of the city. We show up to the game early so that we
can walk around the stadium and get a feel for the field. Our seats are six rows back on the
first deck, about half way down the right field foul line. We had a great view to watch the
Chicago White Sox take on the Toronto Blue Jays.
The
stadium itself was nothing spectacular.
The concourses were fairly wide and it was roofless in the outfield,
which is always a nice touch. But
other than that, the stadium was just average. On top of that, the fans were not really into it, which surprised
us since the White Sox were in first place at the time. Two things surprised us with regards to
the stadium. We were really
surprised to see that the guardrails along the foul line only rose about two
feet off of the ground. This made
it feel as if we were almost sitting on the field, and definitely made it feel
like we had a greater chance at catching a foul ball.. The other shocker was the shower in the
concourse in left center field. We
didn’t really know why, but I’m sure it would feel nice on a warm summer day.

With
a listless crowd, we decided to find some of our own fun, and we managed to
find some around the stadium. I
was checking out the food in the concourse and Brad and Jake began talking to
guest relations about things to do inside the stadium. One of the Sox employees offered to
take us down to see the 2005 World Series trophy. So we cruise down in their employee elevator to their
administrative offices and check out the trophy.

Afterwards, we head back to the main concourse and Brad and
I find some food that strikes our fancy.
I notice a steamed BBQ pork buns stand and head over to pick up 2 buns
for $6 dollars. It was really
weird seeing this Asian dish inside a baseball stadium, and my curiosity got
the best of me, especially since we just downed a deep-dish pizza before the
game. But I couldn’t resist, and I
wasn’t disappointed. They were
delicious and my stomach was nice enough to make just a little more room for
the pork buns. While I was chowing
down, Brad cruised over to a churro stand inside the ballpark. However, since we had used most of our
small bills on tolls, Brad only had change left. He came up to Jake and me, and together, we pool all our
quarters and dimes so Brad could pick up his churro. With both of our stomachs stuffed, we headed back to our
seats to watch the last couple of innings of the game. Although the White Sox made a comeback,
it wasn’t enough and the Jays held on.
Final Score: Blue Jays 9, White Sox 5
